Where Monsoons Meet : A people of History of Malaya

For many people, history is often a boring flurry of dates treaties and pompous princes. For Malaysians, history books are made even less digestible by the dominance of authors who write from the British colonialist point of view.

Where Monsoons Meets attempts to lead a new path away from the beaten tracks. This history book of Malaya is refreshing in its highly readable and entertaining cartoon presentation. Contentwise, it breaks new grounds by recounting Malayan history from the people's point of view.

The period covered stretches from the days of the Malacca Sultanate to the granting of Merdeka to the Federation of Malaya on 1957. Some notable highlights colourfully described include the squabble of colonial powers over Malacca, the revolts againts the establishment of British rule, the gallant resistance againts Jaoanese occupation, British measures to suppress the anticolonial struggle during the 'Emergency', and the formations of the various political parties and patriotic forces of the period before 'Independence'.

To those of us wonder about the background to present day political developments in Malaysia, and especially those born after the Second World War, this is an invaluable, edifying uncovery of  a people's struggle againt colonailism.

My reflection for how do I feel as a Social Science student? For the first time I'm coming to further my studies in Unimas as a Social Science student, I feel proud of myself because I can make it like what I dream before. Firstly, I thought that the subject I was learning was so difficult to understand and to learn, but it easier than I thought because after the got lecture, I understand the whole concept about how to learn in university student style in learning quickly. I was thought probably this time I couldn't make it when the exam wants coming nearby and I have to learn quickly and build my skills in learning in short time and to prepare myself to study for the next level. Before that, I get into know many friends in different kind of other faculties and courses as not to forget get to know the new friends and seniors that are from FSSK as well.  I feel so excited whenever I meet my friends from the other faculty and the other courses as well because we share the same college together and get to know each other at MAP session. Futhermore, I have learn many things in my faculty such as how to handle the event and so on. I succesfully throw away my shyness attitude in front of people after I got into my courses right now because we tend to meet new people, get to interviewing people in short time. I'm so grateful to get this chance as Social Science student to improve myself in any other field or activities that my faculty and make myself to become all rounder students in Social Science.

I got a new friend from the other programme in FSSH. This picture was taken when I was in FSSH camp in last September 2019

Reflection for Mental Health

"You're diamond dear. They can't break you."
                                                  https://weheartit.com/entry/318120482

My name is Rebecca Wendy Anak Nam from Industrial Relations Labor Studies (WA12) programme from Faculty of Social Science and Humanities (FSSH) year 1. Right now, I want to talk about my reflection that is about mental health. First of all, for the first time I had never studied or heard a talk about mental health. I was really excited to find out about it and lately I've been very grateful to have been given the opportunity to hear mental health talks. Mental health is very important to take care of especially for students studying at the University. Besides, from what I get from the Mental Health, many people out there are still unaware of the importance of this knowledge of mental health. Especially in Malaysia, there are still some who do not have the basic knowledge of mental health. They often think that someone with this mental illness is considered crazy and that some people don't want to talk about anyone who claims to have this problem. For example, when someone has a mental health problem they continue to be labeled as crazy and psychotic and everyone shuns the person with the problem. One of the most common mental health that students often face is depression. The problem of depression is not only among students but also among teenagers and adults. Health problems are important because if they are cured late they will definitely give depression to students and adults without asking for the help of a mental health specialist because depression can be a problem that can exacerbate depression and can cause suffering to patients.
